About Sam's Campaign

Sam is on a mission to raise £16,000 in one month to pay for his tuition at Strathclyde University, where he has been accepted to study for his Masters Degree.

Born in Rwanda the year before it was ravaged by the 1994 genocide, and coming of age as the country embarks on its ambitious agenda to become a knowledge economy by 2020, Sam has a deep and personal understanding of the power of government to shape a nation - both for better and for worse.

The opportunity to study Economics and Finance, with access to some of the world's greatest minds in the field and their research, is therefore for him not merely an academic pursuit, but a moral imperative. Indeed, after Sam completes his studies, he plans to return to Rwanda to a life of public service to ensure the mistakes of the past are never repeated and the promise of the future is fully delivered.

He had been looking forward to completing his education at Strathclyde on a full scholarship that had been offered earlier this year, only to receive an email in late July informing him that the funding was to be given to someone else instead.

The hands of the university are tied as the scholarship has been provided by an independent funder, who has insisted that the money go to someone who has never studied in the UK before. Even though Sam has only been in the UK for two years himself, the last thing he wants is for another aspiring student to be denied the same opportunities he has been given.

The good news is that if he raises even a fraction of the £16,000 he needs before the end of August, he will still be able to take up his place and pay his fees in installments.
